Florida Is Hell On Earth

What a disgusting place. The humidity is over 70% full time and the temps are in the 80’s by 8am.

Saw my grandfather yesterday afternoon. He is alert but very frail. It is quite painful to see him like this. We will spend the day with him today.

We had ill dealings with the Marriott North Andrews in Fort Lauderdale, and refuse to do business with them ever again. They are crooks and thieves. They now have a policy to charge an extra $75/night when you arrive just because they feel like it. They do not disclose this fee when reservations are made. They just arbitrarily tell you at the desk when you check in. I was told if I did not like it, I did not have to stay there. Now that is a company that cares about the clientele. Guess what? We cancelled the res and left the hotel forever. We are never, ever utilizing any Marriott property again. We will also be sure to tell every single person we know not to use them either. There are so many other places to stay, who needs that kind of aggravation. I even had a rep from corporate “customer service” hang up on me when I asked to speak to her manager. Her name was Rachael, but of course she would not identify herself any further. No wonder why there! When we return home, I will pursue the matter further. She should be disciplined, if not outright fired for her utter rudeness and incompetence.

We are now staying at Il Lugano, a boutique hotel right on the Intracoastal. We have a huge balcony which looks right out over the waterway. The room is a huge two-room suite and even has a kitchenette. Oh, yes…the rate? Exactly the same as the Marriott garbage property.

As a veteran New York City driver, there are very few places that I ever fear to drive. Florida is one of those places. It is like bumper cars here with each driver vying to be worse than the next.
