Finally, Internet Service is Back

So, after I get home with the new cable modem yesterday, I plug it in and it exhibits the same problem the previous one did. I call in and get a recorded message that “there is a problem in our area, please hang up and wait”. So I do. We go to bed.

I get up this morning to find no change. I call back in to hear the same outage message. I persist and actually get a human on the phone.

To make a long story short, the modem had to be configured from their end in order for it to work. The idiot on the other end of the phone understands nothing about networking but the scripts she has in front of her. She has to struggle for quite some time before finally getting it done. Also find out that the amber light on the cable modem is no longer an error condition, but an indication of connect speed, but for Upstream only…WTF?!? When I asked her a question, she got upset with me. She finally admitted she did not know the answer. DUH. I hate Comcast.
